Mountain Top Builders, Inc. - Celebrating 20 Years Building - established 1997

“Steve and his crew made
the whole experience enjoyable.
He took the time to explain
what he was doing and why he was doing it.
His knowledge of building
in the cold mountain environment
is exceptional. This knowledge
allowed us to make better decisions.”
- Tom Sangster

Where are you from originally? What brought you to Grand County? I was raised in Washington State and came to Colorado in the early 90’s for a “couple of seasons”...
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do, what would it be? Facilitator, problem solver.
What do you enjoy about the work you do? I enjoy the people and the variety of tasks.
What are the hobbies/activities outside of your day-to-day job? My hobbies include two-wheeled exploration (motorcycles and mountain bikes), skiing, travel, reading and daydreaming.
What projects/volunteering are you passionate about? Advocating for professionalism in the residential construction industry, encouraging youth to consider the numerous career path opportunities.
Is there a house or feature of construction by MTB that has particularly captured your interest? True timber framing is my favorite style of construction. I love the authenticity associated with the exposed structure as well as the history and long-term durability with this type of construction. See an example of timber framing in our Legacy Park project.

KimKim Jensen: Finance Officer
Years in the construction industry: 9
Where are you from originally? What brought you to Grand County? Originally from Alaska, I came to Colorado, via the Seattle area, in search of definite season changes. After spending a couple years in the Denver metro area, I came to Grand County for the community, slower pace of life, and outdoor activities.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do, what would it be? Everything-that-Steve-doesn't-have-time-for.
What do you enjoy about the work you do? The people - clients and employees - we work with great individuals.
What are the hobbies/activities outside of your day-to-day job? Skiing, running, hiking and spending time with friends and family.
What projects/volunteering are you passionate about? Working directly with individuals and organizations that benefit our county. Have spent time with the libraries, various school groups, and providing one-to-one educational assistance to children.
Is there a house or feature of construction by MTB that has particularly captured your interest? I really like the day bed area in the Moose Run home. It is a cozy spot and great use of space. And the mudroom is perfect for an active Grand County family, with lots of cubbies and storage space for toys.

RoyRoy Gatesman: Operations, Owner’s Assistant

Where are you from originally? What brought you to Grand County? I was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania. The mountains, sunshine, and the local community have made Grand County feel like home since day 1.
If you could write your own job title that best describes what you do, what would it be? Customer Service, relationship builder/manager, and Teammate.
What do you enjoy about the work you do? Our awesome team, and customers. We have a lot fun and keep it professional at the same time.
What are the hobbies/activities outside of your day-to-day job? Anything outdoors with my wife, dogs, and friends. Bikes (motor and pedal), climbing, skiing, shooting, home projects, and some good old relaxation when time allows.
What projects/volunteering are you passionate about? Being a good steward to our local community and environment. Trail maintenance, trash removal, and helping those in need.
Is there a house or feature of construction by MTB that has particularly captured your interest? Our focus on quality, energy efficiency, and sustainability. We do not cut corners, which appeals to the perfectionist in me. Every project we do has elements that are very interesting to me personally.
